Frequently Asked Air Conditioning Repair Questions

How much does a new air conditioning and heating unit cost for my house?

The cost of a new air conditioning and heating unit installed in your home can range for several reasons. One reason being that not all air conditioning installations can be equal as one company may offer copious upgrades to ductwork, IAQ(indoor air quality) products and efficiency levels of equipment that no two units can be priced the same. The average cost of a usual installation of a new air conditioning and heating system in the North Dallas Area can range from $4,500 single piece of equipment. To a much larger $25,000 for a complete system with a high SEER2 rating and all new ductwork and zone configuration, that gives you 2-6 thermostats per system.

How much does my home air conditioning unit cost to repair?

This question can always be a hard one to answer because we do not know what is wrong with your air conditioning unit. When we approach a simple repair we can see average invoice totals of less than $250. When we get to something old or expensive or complex, you can see repair tickets averaging $1,500. Still no one can tell you how much it will cost you to repair your air conditioning unit until a licensed and trained technician comes to your home to look at it.

How often should I change my air filter?

Normal one inch thick filters are required to be changed out every thirty days. If you have the next size up, 2 inch thick, you are looking at 60-90 days. After that you get into the 4 inch thick filters. The 4 inch thick filters are 90-180 day usage. This means that the more you use them the less use (time) you till get out of them. In the Texas area we use the air conditioning more than the heat, so naturally in the summer they will last closer to 90 days, and in the winter you can stretch them to almost 180 days.

If you have an electronic or other abnormal filtration system, they will all have different maintenance schedules. Check with the office if you have a fancy filter and we will get the maintenance schedule to you and help you clean it if needed.

The air conditioning system in your home or anywhere for that matter, does not require freon to be added at regular intervals, as long as it is still performing like new. When this happens no one can tell you how fast the freon will leak out but the homeowner. They know how long it lasted the last time freon was added. This is crucial as the freon leak will not get slower ever, on the flip it will steadily increase in rate of leaking. Because the tubes are continually becoming older and corroding more and more every day.
